Information and Resources on Environmental Ethics

Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy-Environmental Ethics webpage introduces the concept of Environmental Ethics and presents information on development of Environmental Ethics and other aspects of Environmental Ethics such as ethical theories and policies.

Internet Encyclopedia of Philosophy is a peer-reviewed  academic resource base. The Environmental Ethics page provides an overall introduction to the concept of Environmental Ethics and is a good starting point for studying Environmental Ethics.

The California Environment –Although most of the website is devoted to issues relating to California, the ethics page is not restricted to Californian topics. This page provides a comprehensive list of articles on Environmental Ethics, online resources, links to other Environmental Ethics websites and learning resource on Environmental Ethics.

Ethics Updates contain Environmental Ethics resources by the Values Institute at the University of San Diego. This webpage is one of the most comprehensive online resources on Environmental Ethics. The webpage provides multimedia resources, online surveys, and  other internet resources, on Environmental Ethics that also includes links to  Governmental and Legal resources.  Additionally a list of on-line articles, journals and literature on Environmental Ethics is also provided. 

EnviroLink contains one of the largest and best-arranged listings of environmental organizations on the Web. The Environmental Ethics webpage of Envirolink provides educational resources and links to other environmental organizations.

The Online Gadfly is the website of Gadfly Enterprises. Website contains original essays, an assortment of papers (published, unpublished and in progress), news and notes, bibliographies and other research tools and much more  pertaining to issues on Environmental Ethics, Politics and Public Policy. The Online Gadfly also serves as a "gateway" to other  web sites, publications, organizations and educational institutions working on Environmental Ethics and Policy.

Institutes on  Environmental  Ethics

Center for Environmental Philosophy is affiliated with the University of North Texas.  The primary activities of the Center include: the journal “Environmental Ethics”, reprinting Environmental Ethics books, promotion of research on Environmental Ethics through graduate education, and conducting workshops and conferences in cooperation with the Department of Philosophy and Religion Studies at the University of North Texas.

International Association for Environmental Philosophy (IAEP) aims to provide a forum for a broad discussion of Environmental Philosophy, including not only Environmental Ethics but also Environmental Aesthetics, Ontology, Theology, the Philosophy of Science, Ecofeminism, and the Philosophy of Technology. The website provides useful links and information about IAEP activities.

International Society for Environmental Ethics (ISEE) sponsors the largest bibliography in the world on Environmental Ethics. The “Online Bibliography of Environmental Thought” (OBET), contains nearly 15,000 entries. In conjunction with the International Association for Environmental Philosophy (IAEP) and sponsorship from the Center for Environmental Philosophy, ISEE hosts an annual joint ISEE-IAEP conference each summer.  ISEE website provides a bevy of information including original articles, book reviews, and presentations, as well as information about events worldwide, and links to other environmental ethics-related resources.

The Environmental Ethics Institute (EEI) at the  University of Montana, supports a rich and vibrant discussion about Environmental Ethics between individuals from different backgrounds and with different experiences. The EEI offers a chance to study and discuss environmental ethics under the Ethics and Public Affairs Program at the University of Montana.

Forest Service Employees for Environmental Ethics (FSEEE) is made up of thousands of concerned citizens, present and retired Forest Service employees, other government resource managers, and activists working to change the Forest Service's basic land management philosophy. The mission of FSEEE is to  protect national forests and to reform the U.S. Forest Service by advocating Environmental Ethics, educating citizens, and defending whistleblowers.

The George Washington Institute of Living Ethics offers Environmental Ethics programs targeted towards state, federal, and private resource managers involved in day-to-day actions and long range planning. In addition the institute offers teacher guides and workshops to educate members of environmental organizations, corporations, and other ethics institutes.

Worldwatch is an independent research institute devoted to the analysis of global environmental concerns. The institute focuses on creating  insights and ideas that empower decision makers to create an environmentally sustainable society that meets human needs. Areas of focus include challenges of climate change, resource degradation, population growth, and poverty.

Environmental Ethics Journals

Ethics and the Environment  is an interdisciplinary forum for theoretical and practical articles, discussions, reviews, comments, and book reviews in the broad area encompassed by Environmental Ethics. The journal is supported by the Environmental Ethics Certificate Program at the University of Georgia. The journal focuses on conceptual approaches in ethical theory and ecological philosophy, including deep ecology and ecological feminism, and how these areas relate to environmental issues such as environmental education and management, ecological economics, and ecosystem health.

Center for Environmental Philosophy Journal of Environmental Ethics is a peer-reviewed journal that publishes articles, reviews, and discussions exploring the philosophical aspects of environmental problems. Established in 1979, it is a forum for diverse interests and attitudes that seek to bring together the nonprofessional environmental philosophy tradition with the professional interest on the subject. The journal is produced quarterly by the Center for Environmental Philosophy at the University of North Texas and is the leading journal in its field. The Philosophy Documentation Center offers electronic access to this journal.

Ethics, Policy & Environment offers scholarly articles, reviews, critical exchanges, and short reflections on all aspects of Environmental Ethics, Environmental Philosophy, and the normative dimensions of Environmental Policy. While the journal centers on Environmental Ethics and Policy, its substantive coverage is wider. The journal welcomes analyses of practical applications of environmental, energy technology, regional, and urban policies, as well as theoretically robust discussions of common arguments that appear throughout debates on environment and energy policy.

The Journal of Agricultural and Environmental Ethics presents articles on ethical issues pertainning to agriculture, food production and environmental concerns. The goal of this journal is to create a forum for discussion of moral issues arising from actual or projected social policies in regard to a wide range of questions. The journal publishes scientific articles that are relevant to ethical issues, as well as philosophical papers and brief discussion pieces, and book reviews.
